Bison grazing in the Buffalo Paddock in Waterton National Park, Alberta. Luckily they were on the other side of a fence as I stepped out of the car to grab a photo. Pretty docile animals in this environment, most likely because they see people all the time from May to October as tourists pass through the area.
To think over a hundred years ago there were millions of these creatures wandering the plains of Canada and the United States. Now there are very few, but for the most part they live in protected areas although there are several Bison ranches in Alberta where they are raised for meat consumption.
